Happy May to all! After a winter that would never let go we are finally having spring weather here in beautiful Saginaw, Michigan. The trees are bursting with my most favorite color: that sharp, bright green, the herald of the growing season.

It was no accident that this month’s step in Ribbon & Blooms would be to prepare the flowers for the applique. This time of year it’s a toss up whether you’ll find me at the sewing machine or playing in the dirt in the garden.

To be able to enjoy my garden and work on preparing the applique while perched on the cedar swing is the best of both worlds. The Hand Applique by Machine technique lets me do that!

As a special treat for all those working the applique on my block of the month I’ve arranged with the wonderful folks at Kaye Wood & Friends to post my segment of their Quilter’s Toolbox show at KayeWoodTV. com!

In under ten minutes you’ll see the technique demonstrated using the “No Partridge in This Pear Tree” pattern from the applique book. This charming quilt was designed to illustrate the basic concepts of the Hand Applique by Machine technique.

Kaye Wood and all of the folks who work with her are simply the best people in the world. Kaye is a warm, generous person and a fabulous teacher. She does her very best to make her guests feel comfortable and at home. If only I could remember to smile! I’m just so intent on sharing all I know that I forget that you’re watching me!
